Townsville Port Authority will join the Tree Day initiative again in 2007 by planting more than 700 trees in the Port of Townsville Environmental Park on Sunday, 29 July from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Local residents, Port employees and Port community members are invited to come along and help participate in planting the trees, which have been donated by Ergon Energy.

Townsville Port Authority will tee off tomorrow alongside Townsville’s local business community at its annual Corporate Golf Day.

$8,500 has been raised through nominations and hole sponsorships for the event in which over one hundred participants from the port community and Townsville are expected to attend.

Townsville Port Authority will award $5,000 to a James Cook University student tomorrow, in the first year of its annual scholarship program.

The scholarship will be awarded to Ms. Tracey Lines a final year Bachelor of Economics student from Townsville. She is a single mother of two children and a member of James Cook University’s International Honour Society.

National Tree Day is Australia’s biggest community tree planting event and has been a great success in previous years, a staggering 10.5 million trees having been planted since the Tree Day campaign began in 1996. Townsville Port Authority is joining the Tree Day initiative again in 2007.
