DR KATE Johnson has been named Port of Townsville Limited Employee of the Year for 2010.
Dr Johnson, Interface Manger with the Townsville Marine Precinct Alliance, was awarded the honour for her outstanding performance, leadership, and initiative shown in the last 12 months.

Port environment studies underway |

UNLIKE those whose day on the water harbours thoughts of the night’s dinner, Dr Kerry Neil’s only objective is to catch, count, and release.
The marine ecologist from environmental consultancy group GHD has spent the past fortnight deploying a benthic sled in Cleveland Bay to map animal and plant life on the seabed and among Port of Townsville infrastructure.

Representatives of PNG Ports Corporation Limited recently toured the Port of Townsville to investigate best practice in maritime governance and discuss opportunities for further exchanges.

The third-year James Cook University mechanical engineering student was recently awarded the 2010 Port of Townsville Limited Scholarship, ahead of a number of other applicants.

Coast Guard gets help to stay afloat |

MOORINGS at Townsville’s Coast Guard base have been given a much-needed facelift.
Two pylons attached to the flotilla’s launching pontoon were in early November removed and replaced ahead of the December arrival of the volunteer organisation’s new primary search and rescue vessel.
