Storage Facilities | OIL | major oil companies operate terminals in close proximity to the port | | RAW SUGAR | two storage sheds of 285,000 tonnes total capacity are located adjacent to No. 9 wharf and a new 400,000 tonne shed became operational at the end of 2003. | | MOLASSES | four bulk storage tanks of 60,000 tonnes total capacity, located adjacent to No. 4 wharf | | CAUSTIC SODA | one 5,000 tonne storage tank, located adjacent to No. 4 wharf | | CONCENTRATES | 170,000 tonne covered storage area, located adjacent to No. 7 wharf | | CEMENT | one 30,000 tonne bulk cement storage silo, located in the Eastern Port Development Area | | CHEMICALS | two sulphuric acid storage tanks of 17,000 tonnes total capacity (1 x 5,000, 1 x 12,000 tonne capacity), located in the Eastern Port Development Area | | LP GAS | five LPG storage tanks with a total capacity of 1,250 tonnes. | | FERTILISER | one 90,000 tonne covered storage shed, located in the Eastern Port Development Area | | SULPHUR | one 10,000 tonne covered storage shed, located in the Eastern Port Development Area | Open Space storage for Crude Lead, Refined Copper, refined Zinc and other cargoes. Cold Storage Facilities Cold storage facilities are operated by Harbourside Coldstores Pty Ltd with a capacity of approximately 5,000 tonnes adjacent to the port ( Boundary Street). Harbourside also has 1.5 hectares of land for further expansion of capacity when the demand necessitates. Container Terminal Storage Northern Shipping and Stevedoring’s terminal at No. 3 Berth has an area of 1.8 hectares under seal for storing 1500 dry containers and 64 freezer containers. No. 10 berth, with an area of 2.6 hectares can accommodate 400 containers, 18 of which may be connected to refrigeration power outlets. Patrick Logistics is located within the Port precinct and offers 3.6 hectares of container and break bulk cargo storage, of which 1.5 hectares is sealed. Patrick Logistics offer container transportation, container unpacking, container packing, cargo handling, storage within a 4,000 square metre warehouse and a fully-operational wash bay facility. Patrick Logistics hold a 1.1 Australian Quarantine Inspection Service licence and is a registered premise with Australian Customs. Wharf Sheds Warehousing is available within 4 km of the wharves. Mobile Cargo Handling Equipment Individual stevedoring companies have an extensive range of mobile cargo handling equipment including forklifts, tractors, trailers (container), loaders and earth-moving equipment. Cranes Ore Unloading Crane This crane is equipped with 13 tonne grab (above) which can traverse the length of Berth 3 (except for a length of rail occupied by the 25 tonne crane and the 55 tonne crane at the southern end.). The ore unloader is operated by Northern Shipping and Stevedoring Pty Limited, and all enquiries should be addressed to the operators. Container Crane This Container Crane (above) is capable of servicing Panamax container vessels and travels the full length (less the width of the 25 tonne crane) of Berth 3. It has a heavy lift capacity of 55.9 tonnes and a standard lift of 40 tonnes. The longitudinal clearance between legs is 15.3 metres. This Container Crane is operated and controlled by Northern Shipping and Stevedoring Pty Ltd and all enquires should be addressed to the operators. Slewing Luffing Crane This 30 tonne slewing luffing crane (above) can traverse the full length of Berth 10 and can outreach beyond the fender line to 25 metres. It is owned and operated by Patrick – The Australian Stevedore and all enquiries should be addressed to the operators.
