Christmas presents purchased by members of the Townsville Port community will be handed over to Lifeline on Wednesday (21 December 2005). The hand-over marks the end of the port’s third annual Lifeline Christmas appeal, which collected gifts for children of all ages up to 12 years old.
Townsville Port Authority CEO Barry Holden said employees and other port workers had given very generously. “For a number of reasons, some people in Townsville are not in a position to buy presents for their children at this time of year. We are pleased to be able to assist, albeit in a small way, to give them a helping hand. We know that our efforts will put a smile on a child’s face and will go a long way to bringing some Christmas cheer,” he said. Lifeline Community Care North Queensland General Manager Brenda-Anne Parfitt said the gifts would make a big difference in the lives of people in the Townsville and Thuringowa area. “As the need to help children at this time of year continues to increase, we must constantly look for new and innovative ways to obtain assistance. This year, once again, our thanks go to the Townsville Port Authority for supporting our Christmas Appeal,” she said.
