Port workers help make Australia shine

LAND surrounding Townsville Port will get some TLC when a record number of port employees and customers take to the streets for the Business Clean Up Australia Day tomorrow (28 February 2006).

Organised by Townsville Port Authority’s environment department, the clean-up will commence at 4 p.m. and target the port’s Environmental Park, Fishermans Wharf, the Southern Bank of Ross Creek, Hubert Street, and Benwell Road.

Townsville Port Authority Planning and Environment Manager Caryn Anderson said this was the seventh time port employees had participated in the nation-wide initiative.

“Townsville Port Authority began participating in the event in 1998, but this year’s clean-up has attracted more participants than ever before,” she said.

“Our participation in this event is part of our commitment to being environmentally-responsible in the workplace and the surrounding port area.”

“Port employees participating in the event get a great deal of personal satisfaction out of helping keep the port area clean.”
