Port Community Drives Forward for Cancer Council Queensland

Townsville Port Authority will tee off tomorrow alongside Townsville’s local business community at its annual Corporate Golf Day.

$8,500 has been raised through nominations and hole sponsorships for the event in which over one hundred participants from the port community and Townsville are expected to attend.

All proceeds raised will help the Cancer Council Queensland to build a Townsville Hospice and Palliative Care Centre. The centre will provide a service for terminally ill patients and their families where they can access contemporary, high quality palliative care within a home-style environment.

Held at Rowes Bay Golf Club, the day kicks off with an informal welcome sausage sizzle and registration at 10 a.m. Teams will tee off around 10.30 a.m. for the 18 hole four ball ambrose event.  The day-long event will culminate with a cheque and prize presentation ceremony and barbeque at the clubhouse from approximately 4.30 p.m.

Townsville Port Authority Chairman, Mr. Ron McLean said: “The Port of Townsville has raised almost $90,000 for various charities since our golf days began eleven years ago, and we believe this year’s event will exceed expectations with $8,500 raised for this deserving organisation”.
