Townsville Port Authority’s latest endeavour, the Nexus Business Park, will be officially opened on Monday, 17 December 2007 by the Hon. Lindy Nelson Carr MP, Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth.
Bounded by Benwell Road, Archer Street and Boundary Street, the Park will mainly accommodate offices and warehouse facilities that require close access to the Port of Townsville.
The Business Park’s service road has been named in honour of the late Mr. H.J. (Hubie) Taylor, who played a pivotal role in the then Townsville Harbour Board until he retired from his position of Manager in 1977 after 12 years of service. He also authored the book ‘The History of Townsville Harbour 1864-1979’, committing the history of the city and the Port to paper for future generations to enjoy. Betty Rasmussen, the daughter of Mr. Hubie Taylor will also attend the launch.
Mr Ross Dunning A.C., Townsville Port Authority Chairman, said: “we are delighted to launch this exciting new development which will provide quality facilities in close proximity to the Port of Townsville. This land has sat idle for more than 35 years, so it is good to see that it’s time has come for development. Interest in the park has been very strong with the first tenant signed up and due to commence construction of premises shortly. Negotiations are continuing with other prospective tenants. Any interested parties should contact us as soon as possible, as places are filling fast.”
Recognising that the Business Park is located adjacent to residential areas, design construction guidelines have been developed to ensure that any new construction by tenants will be compatible with the local area. These include information on materials, colours, roof design, car parking requirements, screening, fencing, noise, vibration and emission, stormwater management, signage, and more.
The Business Park is bordered by the Port of Townsville Environmental Park. Comprising over eight hectares, the Environmental Park was established to provide a buffer between the Port’s activities and the local community. It provides an excellent recreational area for members of the public to use and enjoy.
