Port of Townsville’s General Manager Operations - Matthew O'Halloran has proudly participated in the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave today.
Matthew’s participation was initially discussed and proposed to him as a dare in a management meeting at the
Port.
Matthew agreed to the dare and told the group that if they could raise more than $1,000 then he would do it.
“It all happened so quickly, and within two weeks, the target had been achieved and then some, thanks to employees, contractors and clients donating money,”
“My wife was even gunning for me to do it as well!” Matthew said.
Port of Townsville is committed to supporting this event by encouraging as many employees as possible to take part by shaving or colouring their hair and seeking sponsorship from friends, family, colleagues, customers and suppliers. Employees also took part in a number of other fundraising events leading up to today’s Shave.
In total the Port raised over $1,600 at today’s BBQ Shave event at the Port.
Port of Townsville CEO Barry Holden said that this is a worthwhile community relations initiative and has reflected well on everyone who took part.
The funds raised from today’s event will help the Leukaemia Foundation to continue providing practical care and support to patients and families living with leukaemia’s, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. It will also fund research into better treatments and hopefully cures.
The Shave for a Cure, is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events. From across Australia approximately 100,000 people will pledge to shave or colour their hair to raise funds for people living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
The Port would like to extend a warm thank you to Pamela and Roxy from Da Vinci Hair and Beauty Studio who generously donated their time to come out and give Matthew his new hair cut.
