Nexus Park Noise Barrier Wall Project
The Port of Townsville has started works to install a noise barrier wall in Nexus Park (Port-owned land).
The wall is expected to reduce noise impacts and support a more consistent and predictable environment for surrounding residents.
Operational reviews conducted by the Port identified the need for a physical noise barrier along sections of the interface between Port land and nearby residential areas.
The project will be undertaken in stages with construction expected to be complete by the end of the year.
The contractor is permitted to work Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 7am and 5pm, noting some minor works may be undertaken outside these hours.
During the construction period the contractor will set up a site compound in the park. For the safety of the public the construction area will be fenced off and the public asked to refrain from going near the works site.
Those who live nearby the Nexus Park area (pictured below) can expect to hear increased truck movements, reversing beepers for safety and general construction noise.
Some trees have been removed to enable construction of the wall. The Port is committed to minimising environmental impacts wherever possible and will actively identify opportunities to replant and enhance vegetation within the area. Replanting plans will be developed as the project progresses.
The existing pathway within the park and along Boundary Street will remain open to the public where safe to do so. However, the pathway within the park may need to be closed intermittently throughout the construction period. Please take care if you frequent the area.
